Kosova Education Centre (KEC) is a non-governmental and non-profitable organization established in 2000 by Soros Foundation.
The mission of KEC is development of teachers capacity for advancing the system of education by providing high quality resources and services, as well as through active cooperation with all stakeholders at home and abroad..
The vision of KEC is to build an efficient and inclusive system of education that contributes to the sustainable social and economic development of the country by training citizens for lifelong training and for active participation in the democratic life.
KEC is focused in teacher training, education research and consultancy in education. KEC operates a number of teacher training programs developed to contribute to current reforms in the educational system. So far, those programs have reached more than 17,000 practicing teachers in Kosovo. The training programs are accredited by the Ministry of Education as requirements towards teacher certification.
KEC has proven experience in the following fields:
Human resource development. – by operating a number of in-service teacher training programs, with emphasis on programs such as : Reading and Writing for Critical Thinking (RWCT), Step By Step, Participatory Planning and Evaluation, Education for Social Justice, Kosovizion, School improvement.
KEC supported implementation of many school improvement initiatives by assisting school communities in development planning and in undertaking school-based action directed towards improving the quality of education, participation of students and parents, etc.
Education policy development and analyses.- by providing consultancy services to the Government of Kosovo in developing three important national documents: The Pre-University Strategy for Kosovo 2007-2017; the Higher Education Strategy for Kosovo 2005-2015 and the Strategy for Integration of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian Communities in Kosovo 2007-2017 (Education Component).
Transparency and Equity in Education – by operating a number of donor funded projects aiming to increase transparency in education and build an all-inclusive education system which models equity among people. Particular attention was paid to advancing the rights of the child in education.
In addition, KEC is implementing projects related to the improvement of social well-being of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities by improving their access to education, increasing their participation in education, promoting their cultural heritage and information among others.
